BURIED — MINED GAMES

Play on Original difficulty. For a normal unmodded completion, plan on 4 players for Richtofen; the Maxis route can be completed with at least 3.

🟠 RICHTOFEN PATH

  1. Build the Guillotine.
    The Guillotine is between the Saloon and Gunsmith. Assemble its four quest parts. Be careful: some parts are shared with Maxis’s Gallows, so building the Guillotine commits you to Richtofen for that match.
  2. Charge the four red orbs.
    Get the Paralyzer and use it on each of the four red crystal orbs until they change appearance and you receive the confirmation sound. They’re located near the Church, Mansion/maze entrance, Candy Store/Saloon, and tunnels.
  3. Get the purple lantern.
    A floating purple lantern will begin moving around town. Knock it down with an in-game explosive and pick it up.

Take it through the Haunted Mansion and defeat Ghosts while carrying it. Their energy charges the lantern. Once it’s full, place it on the marked spot on the Gunsmith roof.

  1. Solve the cipher.
    Placing the lantern reveals three lines written in a Pigpen cipher.

The code is randomized each game and identifies three of the hanging mine signs around Buried. Find those three signs and activate them in the indicated sequence using the game’s required interaction. Successfully doing this creates a glowing Wisp.

  1. Guide the Wisp.
    You’ll need Vulture Aid to see it properly.

Follow the Wisp around Buried, interacting with it each time it relocates. Eventually you’ll guide it all the way to the Guillotine. Once there, complete the zombie-energy portion around the structure until Richtofen gives you confirmation.

  1. ♾️ Round Infinity.
    Now you’ll need the Time Bomb.

Use it as instructed around the Guillotine with the team present. You’ll be transported into the strange Round Infinity sequence.

Search the bodies scattered around the map until you recover the required switch, then install it onto the Guillotine.

  1. Maze switches.
    Go through the Haunted Mansion into the maze.

There are four switches/levers on the maze gates. Your team needs to determine their randomized correct order. A successful activation produces a visual confirmation; an incorrect attempt means trying another combination.

This is the major reason Richtofen’s normal BO2 route requires four players.

🔵 MAXIS PATH

  1. Build the Gallows

Instead of the Guillotine, build the Gallows/Hangman’s Noose near the Courthouse.

Doing this commits your match to Maxis.

  1. Destroy the four red orbs

Maxis wants the orbs destroyed rather than charged.

Build the Subsurface Resonator and use a Turbine to power it. Use the Resonator on each of the four crystal orbs until they’re destroyed.

  1. Get and charge the lantern

Knock down the floating purple lantern and pick it up.

For Maxis, you charge it using zombie energy rather than the Mansion Ghosts used on Richtofen’s route.

Once Maxis confirms it’s charged, take it to the Gunsmith roof and place it on the symbol.

  1. Decode the Pigpen cipher

Just like Richtofen, you’ll receive a randomized three-part cipher.

Decode it to determine the correct mine signs and activate those signs in the required sequence.

Successful completion produces the next ball of energy.

  1. ⚡ Power the Gallows

This section involves guiding the energy toward Maxis’s Gallows and using the Time Bomb so you can repeat the sequence needed to fully charge the structure.

You’ll know you’re finished when both bulbs on the Gallows are illuminated.

  1. 🔔 Bell puzzle

Now comes one of Buried’s biggest coordination puzzles.

There are nine bells divided between three buildings:

🏛️ Courthouse — 3
🍬 Candy Store — 3
🐴 Barn — 3

Another player goes into the Haunted Mansion where there’s a switchboard corresponding to the bells.

The switchboard player identifies which bell needs to be activated, while the other players coordinate around the three buildings.

Complete all of the required bell combinations and Maxis will confirm the step.

🎯 FINAL STEP — SHARPSHOOTER

Both paths eventually reach the famous Sharpshooter finale.

Your team splits between four areas of Buried where sets of shooting-gallery-style targets appear.

Once the event begins, everybody has to clear their assigned targets within the game’s time window.

If even one target is missed, you’ll need another attempt.

🏆 MINED GAMES COMPLETE

Your chosen side takes control of Buried’s polarization device, and the team receives the quest reward.

🌎 BO2 SUPER EASTER EGG

Here’s where your previous maps matter.

If your group has completed:

TranZit → Die Rise → Buried

with the required towers aligned to the same character, Buried lets you trigger the larger Victis finale. The outcome differs depending on whether you’ve been consistently following Richtofen or Maxis.
