speed run
Weapon Recommendations and Optional Unlocks
Rule #1: Play on Easy Difficulty
If you’re trying to beat Resident Evil 7 in under four hours to unlock the Circular Saw, I recommend playing on Easy difficulty.
This guide works for both first-time players and returning players who have unlocked bonus weapons.
Rule #2: Use the Albert-01R If You Have It
If you’ve unlocked the Albert-01R handgun, use it instead of your regular handgun whenever you need the extra damage.
It only holds three rounds, but it packs a serious punch.
If you don’t have it, your regular handgun is perfectly fine.
Rule #3: Focus on the Important Weapons
Don’t waste time collecting every weapon in the game.
I recommend prioritizing:
- Burner: Useful against Marguerite and her insect nests.
- P19 Machine Gun: Useful against Molded and during the final boss fight.
- M21 Double-Barrel Shotgun (Optional): Grab the Broken Shotgun and a Repair Kit if you prefer its higher damage.
- 44 MAG Magnum (Optional): Powerful against tougher enemies and bosses.
Rule #4: The Magnum Is Optional
If you want extra firepower, you can unlock the Magnum using nine Antique Coins.
However, collecting those coins and returning to the trailer takes extra time.
If you already have enough coins and can grab it without a major detour, go ahead.
Otherwise, skip it.
Remember: We’re trying to beat the game in under four hours, not collect every weapon in existence.
Rule #5: Skip the Grenade Launcher Early
You don’t need to grab the grenade launcher from the Baker house.
If you skip it, you can collect it later at the Swamp Safe House.
I recommend saving grenade rounds for stronger enemies, particularly the Fat Molded.
Rule #6: Final Boss — Eveline
When you reach Eveline, don’t panic.
Phase 1: The Beginning
Use your available ammunition to attack Eveline when she’s vulnerable. If you brought the Magnum, this is a good opportunity to use your powerful rounds.
You can also use the machine gun to keep dealing damage.
Phase 2: When Eveline Picks You Up
When Eveline lifts you into the air, keep shooting her with your machine gun.
At this point, you don’t need to worry about saving ammunition for later encounters.
Phase 3: The Albert-01
Eventually, the special Albert-01 handgun will become available.
Grab it and shoot Eveline until the scripted ending triggers.
And that’s it!
Congratulations, you’ve defeated Eveline and completed Resident Evil 7!
Rule #7: Don’t Waste Time
- Skip unnecessary weapons and collectibles.
- Avoid enemies whenever possible.
- Collect ammunition along your route.
- Use bonus weapons if you have them.
- Don’t spend too long searching for optional equipment.
Final Advice
The most important thing about this speedrun is knowing what you need and what you don’t.
You don’t need every weapon, every collectible, or every upgrade.
You just need to survive, defeat the bosses, and finish the game before the four-hour timer runs out.
